DISTRESS ALERT TRANSMITTER
The Distress Alert Transmitter was developed by SAC/ISRO for the use of fisherman going deep sea. A GPS receiver is part of a transmitter. In the event of emergency, the transmitter, when manually activated, sends a short message containing its position and the type of emergency. The unit was produced through industry and distributed to fisherman through Indian coast guard. A receive station has been put up in Regional coast Guard office, Chennai. Receive system contains the Web portal for accessing the transmitter position and emergency information on line through Internet.
