VTL Electronics Ltd was established by M/s. S K Birla Group in 1966 when the name was VXL Technologies Ltd.. The focus was on Defence Products – Mechanical Fuse, Electronic Measuring Instruments, SAM (a critical item required in Akash Missile), etc. Considering the future in Electronics, Management decided to focus more on Electronics and subsequently Electronics Division was shifted at Kolkata in 2009 having its Factory at ECOSPACE Newtown, Rajarhat. Thereafter, management decided to make a separate company. Accordingly, in 2013, a new company was formed in the name of VTL Electronics Ltd. hiving off the Electronics Division of VXL Technologies Ltd..

Realizing the limitation of seasonal requirements of Defence Products, management further decided to extend its product range having regular demands and Indian Railways was selected as the target customer. Accordingly, new team was recruited in 2015 to develop items for Railways. As of now, 3 products have been developed by the new team and subsequently approved by Rail Viz. Speedometer for Elec Loco, Speedometer for EMU and Passenger information System.

In 2019-20 when the unit is ready to kick off with its enhanced product kitty, the Birla Group suddenly decided to come out of manufacturing business in order to focus on education business. The 1st six month was in the process of gradual winding off. At this junction, the new owner Mr. D. Basu expressed interest in taking over the Company. The takeover process was completed on 26th Sept 2019, to be effected from 1st October 2019 under the terms that all liabilities and receivables up to 30.9.19 will be on Birla Group account.

In short, though it is a running company, for the purpose of Bank financing, evaluation should be done based on its future potential and credentials- thus the unit should be virtually considered as a Start Up’ unit having the Goodwill of VTL with 7 products in its Kitty and set of Experienced Human resources.
